!Configure file for WimpLink 0.98/Unregistered
==============================================
This unregistered version of WimpLink is preconfigured to a demonstration
setup consisting of two AKAs and a number of example messages. To use this
copy in real life you will need to alter its configuration; point data,
arealists and address information.
Use !WLConfig to alter the point data; run it and let !Help give you a
guided tour around the configuration settings. One remark on compression of
outbound mail: WimpLink supports Arc (the public domain command line tool,
application-type or relocatable module), Spark and SparkFS.
When configuring the compression part you are selecting just the compression
type; WimpLink will try to use the best suitable compressor, complaining if
no usable compression tool is (or appears to be) available. The three
compressors' capabilities are read from the '!WimpLink.Data.Compress' file.
Arealists are stored inside the AKA directories; they contain comment lines
(starting with '~', useful for temporarily disabling areas) and area
declaration lines. Area declaration lines contain a local name for the area,
a comma and a 'remote name' used when packing mail and decoding inbound mail
packets. Registered users can use !WLAreas to alter their area setup.
Address information is contained in three files per AKA; an FTS-0005
(St Louis, 'Classic'?) format nodelist, a FrontDoor-style pointlist and
a WimpLink-specific userlist intended for users that are neither in the
nodelist nor in the pointlist.
Installation of the address lists is entirely optional; the information in
them is used only for the convenience of automated address lookup.
Nodelists, pointlists and userlists should be placed in the correct
KnownAs.* directory as 'Nodes', 'Points' and 'Users', respectively.
WimpLink can use the information in the files only if two index files have
been generated by either !WLNodes or by the WLNodIndex tool supplied with
this release. Follow the instructions in WLNodes' main window or run
WLNodIndex (it will look for <WimpLink$Dir> so make sure you've double-
clicked WimpLink at least once).
Please mail all comments, questions etcetera to one of the addresses below.
